Community Ministry

At Uncommon Grounds we don’t just desire to serve our community, we seek to make space for our community to serve itself. Community Ministry is more than just creating programs and hosting events for the community to participate in. Community ministry is about creating room for community members to exercise their gifts, share their talents, and see their visions come to life as they minister to their own community. Whether that’s hosting collaborative events like The Bridge or simply pushing tables together for ladies of Tried Stone’s Women’s Ministry, we are passionate about making room for community members to see and meet needs with their own gifts and resources out of a safe and accessible space in the city.

Community Bible Study

We host two Community Bible Studies:

  1. Every Tuesday at the Cafe starting at 9:30 AM
  2. Every first and third Saturday at Game Time Sports Bar and Grill in Ambridge at 1 PM

Grab a friend, bring your Bible, and join us when you can; anyone and everyone is always welcome!

The Bridge

Hosted the second Saturday of every month, this Community Worship Night is hosted on rotation by local churches (sometimes with congregational collaboration!). We gather to worship, hear the Word, and fellowship outside of our Sunday morning four-wall experience. The Bridge invites congregations out of their comfort zones and provides a space of worship and connection for those who may be wary or feel unwelcome entering a church on Sunday morning. Join us each month as we experience a taste of Heaven on earth!

Vet’s Breakfast

We appreciate our Veterans! We wouldn’t be where we are without their sacrifices and service and we aim to care for them in their retirement. Vet’s Breakfast, hosted the third Saturday of every month from 9 AM – 11 AM is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our local veterans. Vets eat for free, and all others for a $5 donation. Come on down for a meal and to celebrate, honor, & fellowship with some of our town’s heroes! Interested in volunteering for Vet’s Breakfast? Click the link below!

Performing & Visual Arts

Art changes culture. Whether it be visual art that communicates protest, music that communicates history, or theatrical storytelling that gives voice to the unheard – art shapes, forms, and challenges cultural status quos across generations. In a city full of creatives, it is our honor to house, support, and partner with the artists around us that are changing and encouraging our community. Uncommon Grounds Cafe houses the art studio of TessaKay Creative, a long time Cafe family member and incredible artist. We host Art w/ Joi, a biweekly art class led by one of Aliquippa’s own phenomenal artists. We partner with performance groups such as the Demaskus Collective, supporting them as they tell the nuanced stories of the Greater Pittsburgh area and so much more. We also host musicians and worship experiences such as the eXtreme Tour, where artists come through our community, serve us, minister to us through music (and fun), and receive from us as they go. These are just a few of the ways that we share the arts with our community – come see the artwork on our walls and speak to the artists behind our counters to learn more!

Recovery Ministry

At some point in our lives, we all find ourselves recovering from something. Be it addiction, mistakes, injustice, loss, trauma, illness, or something else, all of humanity finds itself in need of recovery at various points of life. Recovery has no timeline and can often be a lifelong process,  but it has one consistent requirement: community and accountability. Uncommon Grounds Cafe hosts various recovery groups as well as enters in recovery spaces as a simple arm of community. If you’re seeking community in the recovery process, stop by, we may have a group for you. If you have a passion for recovery ministry and would like to host a recovery group, contact us and tell us more, we may have a space for you to host!

Spring St. Community Garden

The Spring Street Community Garden stands out as a space of life in the midst of a community that often faces the grief of death.

The garden exists as a space for the local community to plant their own gardens, spread life and color throughout the neighborhood, and to show beauty can exist in unlikely places – even just off the Ave in downtown Aliquippa.

The Garden serves as a prophetic work on the streets of Aliquippa, pointing to the restoration, life, and healing that Christ is bringing to earth now, and that He will one day complete.
